FIGURED: Emerging Curator Exhibition

January 26 – March 3, 2012
This exhibition, curated by Kris Nuzzi, explores how artists undertake representation of the figure without using a physical form. Deliberately moving beyond the meaning of direct portraiture, Figured focuses on unconventional interpretations to reveal the artist’s intention beyond what meets the eye. Using words, possessions, names, and symbolic shapes, the artists of Figured both capture the essence of the individual they represent and leave the viewer wanting more. On display in the BRIC Rotunda Gallery Project Room.

CULTUREMART 2012: Epyllion

Lindsay Abromaitis-Smith's Epyllion
Carnal and spiritual collide in this search for what nourishes the infinite possibilities of our hearts’ desires. In the world premiere of Epyllion, the story we are becoming unfolds through puppetry, movement, and song, developing new rituals that tap into the innate intelligence of the body and reawaken this understanding in those who bear witness to it. Through everyday practices we identify ourselves in the moment but also touch upon an ancient, visceral subconscious.

Your Rainbow Panorama: Denmark

Artist Olafur Eliasson‘s latest achievement is the incredible “Your Rainbow Panorama” sitting atop Denmark’s ARoS Art Museum in the city of Aarhus. Perched on delicate columns 12-feet above the roof of the museum, the UFO-like structure consists of curved glass multi-colored panels embedded with colored foil which gives the ring structure its signature rainbow-like hues.
