I grew up in Western Jutland, near a river, with its water flow and transport running all the year round. This early beginning, so closely linked to the water cycle has greatly influenced my paintings, giving the their own dynamics and naivety. At the same time the rhythm of the flowing water and the mystique of understanding the river valley also influenced the educational direction I chose. First as a civil engineer, later as a hydrologist, and recently as an artist. ‘Zonation’ painting—a term I have coined that explains my style and approach, is something psychoanalysis and modern painting have in common. As expressed by the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, it is a question of "loosing foothold for a moment", to allow the new to emerge and happen. This is also the way I approach painting, with lines, tones, and colors, all in an attempt to for gather and express depth in what I see. For me painting is about spontaneity.
